It has been one week since the Roos family's basement was flooded with backed up sewage. The week has been a rough one, fighting for different sentimental items that were damaged from the sewage. Luckily, Kathy was able to keep her buffet that is over 100 years old, and they were also able to keep Kathy and Emily's wedding dresses. Of course all of these things will have to be cleaned, but that is a small price to pay. 
The company that is doing the clean up and
restoration has removed the water from the basement, and all the contents are either in the garbage, or in a storage unit. They have removed the two feet of sheet rock, and currently there are large fans in the basement. The fans are drying everything out, and nothing else will be done until the basement is completely dry. We are hopeful that the next step will be started this week, which will be the beginning of the restoration of the basement.
The Roos' did receive some good news from the city this week. They had an adjustor come from the city, who told them that the city would be covering the cleanup and restoration completely, and would be covering a percentage of the contents lost. This came as a huge relief, because the family did not know if the city would be covering anything, and they already knew that their insurance would not be covering anything, so to learn that the city will be covering the majority of it takes some of the weight off of their shoulders.
They also received a phone call that the company who is storing all of their dry belongings started to smell sewage in their warehouse, and informed them that everything that was dry would also need to be cleaned. Again, fortunately, the city has agreed to cover the cleaning of these items. Of course, along with good news comes bad. Ted noticed that the pipe connected to his kitchen sink was leaking into the basement. After some inspection, he learned that when the sheet rock was being cut out, the pipe had been cut, and now will require repair. Just something else to add to the list, luckily, it is a small task.
